I...Just found this website, and am grateful I did.<br /><br />I remember reading in Sunset Magazine ( back when it was a real fount of info), a very long time ago, that to get the dark breads dark one should grind up the heal of the existing bread and add it to the one you are making, and as time passes, the bread will darken. Another part was to use a bit of Ovaltine (do they still make that?)in the ingredient list.
