Gadgets and a Giveaway

Old spreader on the left, shiny new one on the right.
You might have read my post about the King Arthur Flour event I went to. While I was there, I did a little shopping. But I had to consider that anything I brought home would have to go on the plane with me.

That eliminated sharp or pointy things. It also eliminated large quantities of liquids, like that giant bottle of vanilla that looked so enticing.

If I lived nearby, I probably would have come home with a 25-pound bag of bread flour, but I set my sights a little ... lighter.

Honestly, though, I have a lot of things from the catalog already. So I ended up buying something that I already had - the catalog calls them nylon spreaders, but I use these things for a whole lot more than that.

They're perfect for scraping ice cream off the sides of my ice cream maker, for example.

What is this yellow gadget?
Quite a while back, I bought a set of the spreaders that included a shorter spreader and a longer one. I use the longer one more often, and it's showing its age. I bought two more.

Yeah, not a huge purchase, but something I could use, and more important, something I could put into my carry-on.

So where am I going with this?

A gadget giveaway!

This time there will be FIVE winners. Each will win a RuMe reusable tote bag and a mystery bag of kitchen gadgets. The contents of the mystery bags are all different, but I'm sure you'll find something interesting, useful. or just plain odd. And the reusable RuMe bags are darned nice. They fold up small so you can stash them in your purse, backpack or back pocket.

Want a hint? I wrote about this once on Cookistry.
It's easy to enter. As easy as 1-2-3. Oh, I crack myself up. Here's what to do:

1.) The required entry is simple. Just leave a comment telling me what you think the yellow gadget (above) and/or the green gadget (right) are. And by the way, if you win, you might get one of them in the mystery bag.

2.) For an extra entry, follow Cookistry on Twitter and tweet a link to this contest. If you already follow Cookistry, just tweet the link. Leave a separate comment letting me know you've tweeted.

3.) And for a third entry, follow Cookistry some way other than Twitter. Leave a comment telling me that you've done so.

The winner(s) will be chosen randomly, US residents only. To spread the wealth out a bit more, you can only win once in this contest.

Please leave your email address in your first comment so I can contact you if you win. Perhaps I'll set up a fancy email system that automatically collects email addresses, but for now we're going old school.

Contest is closed and winners have been notified. The yellow item is a citrus juicer, and the green one is a green bean frencher. Thanks for participating!
Yum

The yellow thing looks like a lemon torture device - maybe a juicer? ;)

Yellow looks like a citrus juicer and the green a corer of some sort.

I'm thinking the yellow thing is a citrus juicer of some sort, but I'm not sure. It's quite unusual!

The yellow item is a lemon juicer, and the green one is maybe another type of juice extractor or zester?

The yellow one looks like something you would stick in to a lemon and then leave it in place to squeeze and pour the juice out the big lip part shaped like a leaf.

The green one must be somewhat different, but not so much for the juicing...hmm. Something to do with apples?

Ohhhh... I bet the yellow one does ream the lemon, but collects the seeds in the metal part somehow before sending the juice out through the leaf. Or maybe the yellow color is just throwing us all off.

The teeth on the green one lead me to believe you can peel a piece of fruit with it. Is it an easy peach peeler and pitter?

(Should I win, you've got my email already. :) )

Oh, and I tweeted it too.

I'm going with lemon juicer for the yellow tool. As for the green one I'm going outside the box- Combo shoehorn/sponrest for spoons with no liquid.

My partner (who lives in the UK and thus can't enter :P) thinks the yellow gadget is a thing that goes in the top of a bottle to direct pouring. We're both baffled on the green thing, though.

Hi,

The yellow one is, I think, a lemon juicer. Stick the thing in a lemon, squeeze it, the juice comes out, guided by the leaf?

What the green thing is, is anyone's guess. I'd bet that people could make up all kinds of great stories about the imagined uses.

Huh. Yellow thing is... a juicer thing? Like for lemons? And without following your hint, I'm guessing the green thing is... OK, I have no idea. Looks vaguely like something you'd see in a gynecologist's office.
