Valentine's Day - A Little Sweet Treat

I'm a sucker for chocolate. Free chocolate is especially good. Chances are that if a company emails me and says, "We've got chocolate. Would you like some?" I will say yes.

I'm having a hard time thinking of any situation where I'd say no to chocolate. Unless maybe the company required me to say nice things about the product rather than doing an honest evaluation.

So when I heard of a promotion through SheSpeaks for Ghirardelli Chocolate Squares, of course I said I was interested. Send me chocolate. I will taste it. I will write about it. And then I'll eat the rest of it.

I've eaten plenty of Ghirardelli chocolate in the past. I've used it for baking. I've tried some of the squares. So this was not uncharted territory. I mean, really, people, this is chocolate, not some kind of exotic spice.

The chocolates arrived at the perfect time - right after dinner on Valentine's Day. Like a little present from the universe. Or the bloggerverse.

I tried one right away and it was chilly. I mean, it's cold out and it just arrived, so the chocolate was cold and hard. So of course I had to have a second one after it came to room temperature. Okay, it's kind of an excuse, but I think it's a good one.

These days, I usually choose dark chocolates, but these were milk chocolate truffle squares. The best of both worlds - a creamy milk chocolate outside with a darker chocolate inside. Oh yeah. Oh, yum. The only problem with these chocolates was that it was one bag of chocolates rather than a case. I think I could find room around here for a case of chocolate.

On the upside, these little squares are great for portion control. Unwrap a bar of chocolate, and the whole thing is likely to disappear. But it's a lot easier to stop at just one piece of chocolate. I like a little treat after dinner or in the evening, and one little chocolate square is a good treat. Just enough to satisfy my sweet tooth, but not a whole dessert.

The verdict? I think I'll be buying these when my free chocolates are gone. While I'm still a big fan of dark chocolate, sometimes I like a softer flavor. These aren't too sweet, and the truffle interior adds a bit more complexity. And at the same time, it's all chocolate, with nothing else competing for my attention. Yeah, I like them.
