I grew up using metal peelers with the hollow metal handles. Some of them are fine for peeling (while some are notoriously not-sharp), but holding them for a long time can be a pain in the ... hand.
When I found the OXO peeler with the comfy black handle, I fell in love with that thing. And ever since then, I've been been fond of OXO products.
It seems like everything they make is engineered to solve some problem with the classic designs - like that thick handle on the vegetable peeler that's so much easier to hold. They don't go for looks over function, and I like that. I use my kitchen tools, I don't display them like museum pieces. It's fine if they're also attractive, but that's not my main concern.
So when I found out that OXO had a blogger outreach program I signed up. I like gadgets. I get giddy about things like vegetable peelers, remember?
So the first thing they sent me was this spatula. It's a handy little thing, with a thin, firm metal spatula covered with soft silicone. This won't damage your bakeware, and the flexible front end bends to get under cookies when you're working at at awkward angle. Spatulas have been around forever, but this one is certainly a better design than some I've seen.
As much as I like my new little cookie spatula, it's not just about me. I've got something for you, too. Read on for details. (But first, a little bit about fundraising.)
OXO is currently raising funds for pediatric cancer awareness through the sale of a limited edition cookie spatula. Fifty percent of profits from the spatula will go towards that goal. You can buy your own spatula at Amazon, Bed Bath & Beyond, or find a local retailer in your area.
While you're looking for that local retailer, check out the rest of the OXO site. You can send virtual cookies to help spread the word about hosting a bake sale or some other fundraising event for Cookies for Kids' Cancer. Through Dec. 31, OXO will match all proceeds from registered bake sales, up to $100,000.

Quick note here: My comment system seems to have glitched, and there are some earlier comments that vanished ... I still have them, I can see them, but they're not visible on the blog. They WILL be counted for the contest, so if you are one of the folks whose comments disappeared, don't worry, I've got ya.
And the winner is ... Christopher Sorrel! Congrats and happy cookie-making!
