Typing with my mouth full (Quaker Soft Baked Bars)

This post brought to you by Quaker Oats. All opinions are 100% mine.

I must be the world's worst snack reviewer. Every time I agree to sample something and review it, at first I'm excited about the opportunity to try something that's just been introduced to the marketplace. I'm always curious about new products. I want to see what they're all about. Then I have a moment of "Oh my gosh, what if I hate it???"

I know reviews are supposed to include comments about what I like and don't like, but I'm not big into negativity, so I'd hate to write a post about something I absolutely hated. Fortunately, the Quaker Soft Baked Bars were even better than I expected.

I thought these were going to be sort of chewy and granola-y, but instead they were softer. Somewhere between the texture of a brownie and a muffin. Not quite as soft as cake, so they would hold up well to being shoved in my purse for an on-the-run snack.

But unlike a brownie, these are a little more like wholesome food. I mean, they're from Quaker. You know - oats and all that.

The packaging had enticements to heat the bars up, so that's what I did for a little breakfast snack for me and my husband. First we tried the banana nut bread. I hate to admit it, but it was on par with a lot of the home made banana breads I've tried. Actually, it was better than some that have tried too hard to be healthy.

I was honestly surprised how much I liked it. I mean, I'm all about making everything from scratch and here I am opening a package and eating a snack bar. But the banana flavor was really good, and the texture was appealing.

Next, we tried the Cinnamon Pecan Bread. This one had a drizzle of a sugar glaze on top and the cinnamon flavor was well balanced. My husband said he like this one better, and he admitted that it was probably because of the sugar.

On the other hand, I preferred the banana flavor because it seemed a bit less sweet to me. And the cinnamon pecan bar had raisins, and I'm not crazy about those. But even with the raisins, I have to admit that it wasn't bad at all. If I was hungry and that's what I had on hand, I'd eat it.

The truth is that there are times when I need fast, portable food. While I might have great leftovers in the fridge, sometimes I want something I can bring along while I'm running errands. It's good to have a reasonably healty snack that I can eat if my errands take too long and I get hungry before I get home. I could see keeping some of these on hand for just that purpose.
